The Euganei Hills are hills of volcanic origin that rise in the Po Valley near the spa towns of Abano Terme and Montegrotto Terme, in the province of Padova, within the Euganean Hills Park, a naturalistic island of almost 19,000 ha.
The oldest presence of the vine in the Euganean Hills area dates back to Roman times. After 1850, the international Merlot and Cabernet vines were introduced into the Euganean Hills area, having adapted to the soil and climate conditions of the area.
In 1969 the wines of the Euganean Hills obtained the recognition of the “DOC Colli Euganei“. The continuous improvement and qualitative characterization of a type of yellow Moscato, the “Fior d’Arancio”, has led to the recognition of the DOCG Colli Euganei Fior d’Arancio.
Among the most representative wines we find Serprino, Colli Euganei Rosso, Moscato-based whites and the Fior d’Arancio in its three versions: dry, sparkling and passito. Fior d’Arancio itself represents the Docg of the Euganean Hills (conquered in 2010), the jewel in the crown of Euganean wine production.
For the protection of the wines of the Euganean area and their production, there is a voluntary Consortium which since 1972 has carried out promotional activities and ensures that the consumer has wines on the table with all those physical and organoleptic characteristics that only the land of the Euganean Hills can provide.
